Sproutlings Gets a Boost From WHAS Crusade for Children Grant

Sproutlings Pediatric Day Care & Preschool was recently awarded a grant from the WHAS Crusade for Children for new buggies, iPads and educational apps. The WHAS Crusade for Children, established in 1954 by WHAS-TV, raises money for organizations, schools and hospitals to better the lives of special needs children. The Crusade serves children in all 120 Kentucky counties and more than 50 Southern Indiana counties.

Sproutlings is located in the Kosair Charities Center on the Masonic Homes Kentucky’s Louisville Campus and is the only Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care (PPEC) center in the region that integrates PPEC kids with typical kids. Children in the PPEC program work with occupational and speech therapists several times a week. The iPads and interactive educational apps will be used by therapists, teachers and staff to help children communicate, learn and enhance their fine motor skills.

Further, the grant covers the cost of new buggies to take children on strolls through campus, which gives them the opportunity to explore nature. The changing color of trees, the wildlife, and the diversity of plants and flowers that can be seen on campus provide them with valuable learning experiences. The buggy seats are padded for comfort, and the harness-type seats ensure that children can be safely fastened in while sitting in an upright position. The support provided by the WHAS Crusade for Children is important to so many families. Grants like this are essential to provide support for educational programming and learning tools for our medically fragile and typical children.
